Role Overview

We are a growing accountancy firm looking for a VAT specialist (Senior Manager or Manager Level) to join our tax team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is looking to cut down their commute and progress their career in a growing and ambitious firm.

As the VAT Senior Manager, you will be responsible for a VAT team of three other staff members and your role will be the oversight and management of all aspects of VAT compliance and reporting for our company. You will ensure that our VAT processes are efficient, accurate, and compliant with all relevant regulations and laws. Your role will also involvement on all VAT consultancy and planning projects across the firm’s wide range of client and collaboration with various departments within the organisation, as well as external stakeholders such as tax authorities and auditors.

We are seeking an ambitious CTA qualified person with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in VAT. The Role

  • VAT Compliance: Ensure the VAT team carry out timely and accurate preparation, submission, and payment of VAT returns in accordance with local regulations.
  • VAT Planning: Develop and implement VAT strategies to optimise tax efficiency and minimise liabilities.
  • Tax Audits: Coordinate and manage VAT audits, responding to queries from tax authorities and ensuring compliance with audit requirements.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously review and enhance VAT processes and procedures to streamline operations and ensure accuracy.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate VAT risks through proactive monitoring, analysis, and implementation of appropriate controls.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with internal stakeholders such as audit, accounting, corporate compliance and operations teams and other UHY global network firms to address VAT-related issues and provide guidance on transactions.
  • Training and Education: Provide training and guidance to internal teams on VAT matters to enhance awareness and compliance across the organization.
  • External Relationships: Liaise with external advisors, tax authorities, and other relevant parties to stay updated on changes in VAT regulations and ensure compliance.
  • Reporting: Prepare and present regular reports on VAT compliance, liabilities, and other related metrics to the UHY board of directors.
  • The candidate will be given their own personal VAT portfolio of clients. They will work as a leader of the tax compliance team, the main responsibility will be the oversight of the VAT team and VAT elements of all consultancy projects;
  • Identifying tax/VAT planning opportunities;
  • The candidate will be introduced to other VAT specialists within the UHY global network and will have the opportunity to travel to various UHY conferences globally and to work on cross-border VAT projects within the UHY global network;
  • The candidate will report to and work alongside the tax director and will be fully supported by same;
  • The candidate will manage a team of three junior tax staff to assist with the above.
  • The role can be based in either the Dundalk or Balbriggan offices, to the preference of the candidate.

 

About You

  • Tax Technician or AITI;
  • Minimum 5 years experience working in VAT;
  • A good understanding and knowledge of Irish VAT and the Irish tax legislation;
  • A team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Confidence in dealing with people and strong client-facing skills;
  • Self driven with an ability to implement and drive improvements and changes within the VAT practice;
  • Self-starter with the ability to use initiative and to prioritise with excellent time management skills;
  • Good attention to detail.

Salary Level

Salary commensurate with experience.
