Life in UHY FDW

Hello, my name is Andrea Stanley, I am 22 years old and from Swords. I joined UHY FDW in 2020. I studied in national college of Ireland, and I graduated in 2020 receiving a 1.1 bachelor of honours degree in accounting and finance. I am currently studying for my four remaining professional exams with ACCA. I appreciate that I can proceed with my exams while working in UHY.

UHY has given me great exposure and experience while working on smaller teams, I also see projects from inception to completion exposure to a variety of work, clients, and industries.

UHY is an office where we respect, we do teamwork, we do coffee and cake, and we have fun but not only these aspects we are friends. UHY has allowed me to progress with my career and continue to progress.

In my spare time, I play camogie and have played since I was young, I love watching the Dublin players play GAA and I enjoy spending time with friends.

Hi, my name is Eloise and I joined UHY FDW in August 2021 as an accounts and audit Junior on a training contract.  I graduated in 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance and then completed a masters in 2021 in accounting.

Prior to joining UHY, I had worked in retail for 4 years and had also gained experience working as an office administrator.

The main thing which attracted me to UHY FDW is the broad range of services on offer such as accounts preparation, audit, tax and consultancy. I was looking for an environment which could allow me to gain experience and knowledge in a wide variety of areas and UHY was the perfect fit.

My experience so far has been great. I didn’t expect to settle in so quickly, everyone is very approachable, friendly and supportive of each other. There is a nice mixture of professionalism and a friendly atmosphere in the office.

My mentor Stephen has been great. He has provided me with the necessary knowledge and guidance which has increased my confidence in the workplace. The firm has a wide variety of clients in different industries. I have gained experience preparing sole trader accounts and have also worked on limited companies.   I have been on a lot of charity audits and also got experience going on client site. I have team meetings every week discussing what has been completed on the list of clients I have been working on, if help is needed and what I plan to complete the following week. Staff training also occurs regularly which is really beneficial.

I am currently studying with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) to complete the strategic professional exams. The work life balance is good as UHY FDW offer flexibility with working hours which enables me to plan my lecture and study hours during the day. It also allows me to part take in social activities outside the work environment such as dancing and cooking.

Going forward, I hope to complete my ACCA qualification within the next two years while gaining the necessary skills, knowledge and experience.

I am Aishwarya Pawar. I joined UHY FDW in January,2022. I have completed the Chartered Accountancy course from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and CPA from CPA Ireland. I am currently studying for the Strategic Professional Level of ACCA.

I have worked in the finance department of an IT corporate in India for 2 years before joining UHY.    I have experience of working on Tax Compliances, Tax Audits, Statutory Audits, and Transfer Pricing Compliances.

When I moved to Ireland, I decided to take up the ACCA Course considering the global recognition and opportunities offered by ACCA. I got the opportunity to join UHY FDW as a Trainee in the Accounts and Audit Team which has provided me the right platform to gain a practical exposure in this field by way of variety of Audits and Accounts Preparation of ROI and UK companies. The organisation has a positive working culture and learning environment which helps to continually improve your professional skills. There are regular educational trainings conducted in the organisation and the firm policies helps to plan for the ACCA exams in an effective way.

Hi, my name is Paul Carroll and I did the summer internship programme with FDW in 2017 & started full time here in 2018. I studied Accounting & Finance at Dundalk Institute of Technology for 3 years, followed by 3 years studying with the ACCA. Currently waiting for my last exam result to be qualified.

The office has a great vibe and there’s never a dull moment in FDW. Through working in a team and regular social events there’s always something happening that’s exciting and bringing everyone together.

My supervisor is Martina Gribben and she is the Audit Director. She is excellent at explaining anything that needs to be explained and always pushes us to achieve more and better ourselves while working in a friendly environment. Working with her everyday I’m learning new skills that will forever stay with me as I progress in my career.

I’m friendly outgoing and sporty person so having the ability to work in a friendly environment on a team makes it that I’m never out of my comfort zone. Outside of work I’m heavily involved in sport. I play GAA with my local club Roche Emmets and play golf in both Dundalk golf club and Ardee golf club.  Thankfully in FDW we have a flexi-clock that very much so makes for always being able to maintain a work life balance in that playing golf or making it to training in the evenings is never an issue.

My name is Emily Doyle, I’m 24 years old, and I began working with UHY FDW in August 2021. I originally went to college in Galway, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in Law and Geography from the National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG). I worked for three and a half years in Spar as a retail supervisor during this time and throughout the Covid pandemic. It was the pandemic alongside moving home from Galway that led me to evaluate my future, and I decided a career with numbers was something more suited to me than my degree or continuing in retail. I signed up to the Chartered Accountants of Ireland, registered for the CAP 1 exams, applied for an opening as a trainee accountant with FDW and the rest is history! I have been working alongside my manager Jason Murphy in both the Dundalk and Balbriggan offices and enjoy mixing with and getting to know all the staff. I’m currently studying for my CAP 1 exams in May, but in my free time I also enjoy walking, listening to podcasts, and watching Grey’s Anatomy!

Hi, I’m a Trainee Accountant that recently joined the UHY team in 2020. I spent 3 years studying Commerce in UCD before graduating in September 2020. During my time in UCD I specialised in the area of Accounting & Finance as I had a keen interest in accountancy from my Leaving Cert days. After graduation, I sought to obtain my professional qualification as a Chartered Accountant and I applied for the trainee accountant role at UHY. Outside of work, I love playing football. I also enjoy gaming during my spare time.

One of the benefits of working at UHY is that we are exposed to a wide range of clients in both their size and industry. UHY also provides us the opportunity to work side-by-side with experienced accountants within the company, which goes a long way when studying for exams or furthering your practical knowledge. Working at UHY, you feel part of a bigger family which is one of things I’ve loved since starting here.
